Locating Print Periodicals

Current periodicals are those which have recently arrived, usually the most recent year of publication.

In Green Library, the current periodicals collection is shelved on the first floor past the Information Center Desk. Periodicals are arranged alphabetically by title. To locate back issues, copy down the call number printed on the box beneath its title. Then check the Shelving Location Guide. Back issues are bound like books. Though most bound periodicals are bound using Library of Congress call numbers, some titles are classified in the Dewey Decimal System. Periodicals classified in the Dewey Decimal System began publication before Library of Congress classification became the standard for government and academic libraries.

A select number of titles are on display shelves near the newspapers. The Socrates record for these titles will show the location for recent issues as: IC-Display. Again these are shelved alphabetically with the call numbers posted on a pillar to the left of each section of the display shelves.

In many libraries on campus, all periodicals are kept together and shelved alphabetically by title.
