Types of Sources
Books
Books cover virtually any topic, fact or fiction,
and often include extensive bibliographies.
For research purposes, you may be looking for
books that synthesize information on a topic
to support a particular argument or thesis.
Electronic books, called e-books,
can be accessed on-line. Check for information
about possible fees to access, copy/paste and/or
print. Also know that, because of copyright
restrictions, sometimes only a portion
of a book can be copied.
Use a Book
- when looking for comprehensive or historical
information on a topic
- to put your topic
in context with other important issues
- to find summaries of research to support
an argument
- for
relaxation and enjoyment
Examples
- Keller, Edward A. Active Tectonics:
Earthquakes, Uplift, and Landscape, 2002
- Nash, Gary B. ed. The American People:
Creating a Nation and a Society, 1990
- Gibbons,
Kaye. Divining Women , 2004
